My ds has just hit 6 months, is breastfed, and for about the past month daytime feeds have been very hit and miss (mostly miss) in that he can't concentrate enough to feed for more than a few seconds at a time. He makes up for it with night feeds at the moment, and obviously I would prefer him to take some proper feeds in the daytime. I've tried feeding in a darkened room etc as if it's nighttime, which helps a little, but are there any ways to get him to feed properly when out and about? He obviously gets hungry but if I am out at a friend's house or cafe he is on and off the breast like mad, which doesn't make for a very relaxing time... He is not upset when he comes off, just talks to me (very sweet) or looks around, exposing acres of flesh to all and sundry . Even feeding at home during the day he isn't much better.

Any tips or is it just going to be like this from now on?

Invest on a shawl or pashmina and persevere in the day, when out and about, but with a little more coverage, My DS did the same. It will pass, but you need your sleep, and DS does too.

No one notices... only other BF mothers!

Thanks - it's really the lack of decent daytime versus nighttime feeds that I'd like to change. The flashing of boobs is a tad embarrassing but doesn't bother me excessively.

I went through the same with my daughter about 3 weeks ago when she hit 6 months. It lasted about a week and a half, she was on and off and biting and really unsettled.

I tried taking all distractions away, other kids out the room, no tv, lights low etc but it didn't seem to help. Sometimes I gave up and tried again after say 15 minutes. As I said, it only lasted about a week and a half and has been fine since, I think it may have been to do with teething.
