Anxiety attacks and breast feeding?

I've started having quite bad panic attacks and feeling anxious, I want to see the GP, but previous to ahving dd was on ADs - is there anything they can prescribe that will be safe while I'm bfing?

Most ADs are fine while breastfeeding. Problem is your GP may not know that, if he's not very clued in. Here is a very good page on antidepressants while breastfeeding - you want to be on the newer ones. How old is your DD?

She's 5 months tomorrow. Amid pressure from DH, and HV to quit breastfeeidng, I have no intentions to do so yet

Why is HJV pressuring you?

NotQuiteCockney · 23/01/2007 22:11

Oh, then you're fine - the kellymom link says that what small side-effects have been seen from taking SSRIs in bf have been in the first 1-2 months. So you're well out of that. Which med were you on before? Were you happy with it? Going back to it would be best, if you can - have a look online and see how it is with breastfeeding.

(If your GP is crap on breastfeeding, you can lie about whether you are still breastfeeding, to get your scrip ...)

Oh, and thwap your DH and HV about hassling you to stop breastfeeding. Why would they do that?

lunavix · 23/01/2007 22:16

lol don't get me started. Dh is rather jealous, and also under the delusion she will sleep through immediately if weaned and bottle fed.

HV has decided she's too small and will benefit from porking up on formula and baby rice.

Have put my foot down.

Arse of a woman
Why can't they just leave things be????

lunavix · 23/01/2007 22:21

Yes, not entirely sure her weight has been calculated correctly but she's 13lb something so hardly diddy.
