I've been ill, hardly eaten for the last 36hrs or so (I have been trying to keep my fluids up though).

DS (11 months) has been wanting to be attached to me for most of the time (also ill), but although he is sucking, it doesn't feel like he's feeding iyswim, more like I'm a glorified dummy.

His nappies aren't getting desperately wet - I've been syringing water into his mouth to get him to drink.

He bit one nipple on Sunday night and it bloody hurts, and I have been not using it... normally I would have had to by now because I would have been huge and leaking everywhere, but I'm not leaking at all when he feeds (or at other times).

I dunno what to do! I'm worrying about him getting more dehydrated than he already must be

He won't have a bottle anywhere near his mouth since he's been ill (think he's probably got a sore throat).

Will he eat anything?.. water melon, pineapple, ice lollies, or even just suck ice cubes?

Have you taken any medication?

Flamesparrow · 23/01/2007 13:41

He's not eating anything much - did get yoghurt in him.

I haven't taken anything since Saturday.

Had you been cutting down on the feeds? Maybe you need to let him keep trying, to build up your supply again.

Flamesparrow · 23/01/2007 14:37

It normally only takes 24 hours for him to get it kick started again, and he started the lots of sucking on Friday , and even with the cutting back, the completely unused one would have normally noticed by now.

I know I was toying with stopping feeding, but I don't wanna!!!

They will be working - even when you are ill they still produce milk. If he is also ill he perhaps hasn't been sucking with the same vigour. Just acrry on, it will sort itself out. Give him icelollies and jelly and ivecream etc. Offer juice/ water from a cup (normal teacup or mug) and let him sip it. He'll take it if he is thirsty.

I thought my milk had gone when DS2 had meningitis at 6 months. Boobs seemed empty. Once he got better and sucked better, milk returned. It will be fine.

Thankyou That's reassuring.

I'll go make some lollies now
