Aptamil anti-reflux formula

PixieMiss · 01/07/2016 21:24

Evening!

My DS is 14 weeks old and on the suggestion of the HV, I am feeding him the anti-reflux variant of Aptamil. He has been on this for 2 full days now so roughly around 12 feeds.

He has been having dirty nappies regularly with no change except for tonight where he has passed a "log" type stool. It was quite dry according to my DP who changed him but he has not showed any signs of constipation - upset, straining etc.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it worth trying to speak to someone tomorrow?

TIA

The formula for reflux is thicker and a side effect of this can be constipation. Try offering baby water between feeds and doing anti colic massage to help with constipation.

Yes it causes constipation!

Do some water feeds in between, warm baths etc. It does pass so don't worry. Ours didn't cause any pain for us and we used some water with some fresh orange in it every few days to help.

Thanks very much for the replies. He is asleep at the moment but I will try him with some cooled boiled water and get some fresh orange when my DP comes home.

My HV is visiting on Thursday so I will ask if it is worth keeping him on it if he is so uncomfortable.

Keep at it, everything just needs a little time.

I wouldn't give orange juice to a baby of that age. A little boiled water should be ok though.

unimagmative13 · 05/07/2016 19:55

It's usually what the HV recommend. I think it's 10parts water 1 part juice.

Citrus juices aren't recommended under 6 months and can be linked to eczema. Cool boiled water is ok though
