Thrush? Mastitis? Something else???

Ok so for past two days have been getting intermittent stabbing pains in breasts. Started out with just mild pains in the right, progressed today to extremely painful burning pains in both boobs at fairly regular intervals. I have no other symptoms - no sore nipples or anything. DS (12 weeks) seems ok too.

What is this? Thrush? Mastitis?? I'm trying to get a GP appt but is there anything I can do in the meantime as it bloody hurts...

Pain and burning can be mastitis. Is there any redness on the skin, or hot to touch?

Maybebabybee · 14/06/2016 23:46

No it's not red or hot to the touch so it doesn't seem to fit mastitis. Nor do I feel unwell generally

If it's not mastitis it may be ductsl thrush.

I had it, and when dd fed, my toes curled.

Sounds like thrush to me. Do your nipples throb between feeds at all? If it is thrush you probably need fluconazole, go armed to your GP with some info from LLL or similar!! Hope you feel better soon

It doesn't hurt at all when my baby feeds. And it didn't hurt in the night but now it's re started Confused

No throbbing.

Dreading going to the GP tbh as their knowledge of anything bfeeding related seems to be a bit crap

When is the stabbing pain? I went through a phase of really painful let downs, both when baby was feeding and between feeds. So painful sometimes I had to stop whatever I want doing and breathe through it!! It lasted a few weeks and came and when out of nowhere! It felt like shooting/stabbing pains from my armpits to my nipples. Are there any breastfeeding support groups near you where you could go for some advice as well as to GP?
