DD is nearly 6 months old. At the new Mum's group I attended they told us that we should change to follow on milk but several friends told me I didn't need to bother. DD currently has Aptimil Extra.

Any advise please?

Follow on has the extra vitamins and iron they need from 6 months +, but if she is having a varied diet, it's up to you...

I changed to Aptamil Forward when ds was about 7mths as I thought that it have more iron in it which was important. Its also slightly cheaper but its up to you.

Surfermum · 17/01/2007 20:44

I did but only because it was cheaper as there were offers on the follow on milk. She didn't need it for the extra vitamins etc that they say is in it.

They don't need follw on milk.Who told you they did?
It is simply a marketing ploy.

Hi - my HV says to leave on first milk if happy with it. They should be getting extra vits etc. from solids. However you feel - no right or wrong answer!

My dd1 had her first milk until she was 1 and then changed to cows' milk. Dd2 was bfed. Ds is on his first milk at 8 mo but I may use follow-on with him at a year as dd2 has ended up anaemic and I don't want him to be - it will depend on how he is eating - dd2 is very picky.

Moondog I thought i'd seen on here it was a marketing ploy. When I asked HV (I need to remember not to!!!) if that was the case she said they needed it for the iron levels. I make DD lovely nutrious food so I think I'll stick with the milk she's on because she's happy on it.

Thanks everyone
