Orange Juice & Breastfeeding

I've taken to drinking a glass of orange juice in the mornings to help get things .. erm.. moving after the birth again, but ds2 seems very unsettled during the day, doesn't settle well for naps and seems a bit windy. I didn't put the two together until yesterday he slept well (I forgot to drink any juice) and today he was unsettled again (remembered to drink the juice).

Is this a likely culprit for ds2 being unsettled (he's 2 weeks old)? Is there an alternative juice that wouldn't upset him but still help my digestive system?!

Have heard of this but must admit always thought it was a bit of an old wives' tale. I did try not to drink too much oj when ds was little but then again could never really tell because he never settled well anyway!

TBH plain water is probably as good as anything for you - maybe with a few yummy figs, prunes, bowl of bran as well Some people swear by warm water with a slice of lemon, too.

What about prune juice?

Well....sometimes mothers report a connection, but there is no logical reason why orange juice would have an effect on a baby's behaviour.

But since when was life totally logical ?

I had orange juice often when my baby was little as I had really missed it with the heartburn of late pregnancy. It never made any difference to him. I remember a midwife told me to avoid grapes, spicy food and tomatoes; all of which I had eaten that day and again he was fine. I suppose babies are as individual as us in terms of stomachs. By the way I tried prune juice cos the painkillers the hospital gave me on discharge (after cs,) gave me terrible constipation. I drank tons and it did nothing. (I still feel sick at the thought of it!) Also was adivsed hot water that didn't help either. After a night of hell I was given glycerine suppositories (what a laugh trying to use them) and lactulose, one of which did the trick. (I felt like I had gone through my own natural birth experience after that!)
