I have a lovely 2 day old and am trying breastfeeding after not managing with my first due to labour complications.

I am already a struggling so would appreciate some non judgmental advice please.

Background is I had pnd ladt time and have been very nervous during this pregnancy about getting ill again to the point where I was being monitored for antenatal depression. Sleep is hugely linked to my mood - even getting an extra hour cab make a massive difference.

My DS has just had his tongue tie snipped today and he's so much better. Ask someone to have a look next time they visit.

Even if you don't want to co sleep, have you tried feeding lying down belly to belly? That's the position my baby is best at.

Day three is really tough. If you can keep going back to bfing clinic for support, you might get different support and advice which would make a difference.

Thank you all. We had a really difficult night with baby pretty much refusing to feed and screaming and arching away whilst clearly starving. Still not enough wee. Also has made me ridiculously engorged so even harder to get a latch. Gave a bottle of formula this morning as was worried. Had expressed some but not getting enough out.

Called the breastfeeding helpline this morning as feel like we have multiple issues to fix and I didn't know where to start. They told me to express hourly to make sure I don't get ill and to spend the day in bed doing skin to skin and trying different positions and not caring if feeds are two minutes or two hours. Have managed one proper feed since then so that's a relief and he is due another now.

They also said to get me and him checked for thrush as am on antibiotics so am seeing the midwife tomorrow and also asking about tongue tie.

Thanks for your help. Fingers crossed things get a bit easier soon.

Just wanted to give you an update. Baby does have thrush so we are both on medication now. Went to another breastfeeding clinic and although I am sore I think things are beginning to click so much more positive. Thank you all for your help and tips.

Ah great to hear things are getting better. Hope the thrush heals soon!

Fab to read this and hear things are going better! Breastfeeding is bloody hard at the beginning but to totally worth it in the end! I fed my DD for 14 months until she self weaned and am pregnant with no2, looking forward to feeding again although not quite as excited about the first couple of weeks! :-/
