Best breastfeeding pillows

Hi all,

My littlie is 11 days old, we've had a slightly rocky start as I had some complications which compromised feeding, so she lost too much weight, which meant a few days of formula top ups. Basically, we haven't had plain sailing breastfeeding (is there any such thing...)

I'm struggling now with three things: 1) still in pain from the complications (infections in tears) which mean I can't sit comfortably 2) carpal tunnel syndrome which makes it trickier to support her head and 3) because of 1 and 2, think the latch isn't always great so it often hurts.

So I'm after a breastfeeding pillow.

Any recommendations for which are really useful would be gratefully received. I can't at the moment sit on a sofa, just a nursing chair. I ordered a Brest Friend, but find the back support bit makes sitting even more uncomfortable (also I got boiling hot with foam wrapped round me!)....

These are stupidly expensive, but I found the shape of the big one much much better for working in all my chairs than the half donut widgey style shaped ones. I am crap at holding baby heads so really need a good pillow. Makes feeding loads easier for me.

Just for now, can you feed laying down on your bed, so your hands get a break?

I used the rugby hold when BF on the sofa with normal bed pillows under DD. It was the only way I could feed without me screaming due to pain/mastitis/raw nipples.

When I got more used to it, I loved this type of pillow

Ooh, Kate's one looks v similar shape actually. Much cheaper too.

I loved the Red Castle one. It's like a beanbag inside.

cactuskate I have been doing a lot of side lying! Just desperate to be in another position now... Plus we seem to be getting worse at side lying now, was v painful last night, can be hard to get a good latch when her head is against the mattress. Rugby hold isn't too bad, but tricky in the nursing chair as it has arms and my bits aren't up to the sofa yet....

They are also really supportive to go behind your neck for yourself if sitting up in bed watching t.v, or to support the base of your spine when sitting in bed.

I did a lot of sitting in bed every evening from 7pm as DD slept beside me and still does It was the only rest I got.

Ive still got ours after 3 years. Cant bare to part with it.

mangosteensoda is that the big flopsy one? I do like the idea of beads rather than polyester filling...

I have the ultimate one. I see that they now do a cord version of that size which is a bit cheaper.

Yes, big flopsy. I loved it the most when I was pregnant as it was great for sleep positioning.

I found it very versatile when feeding too, but probably less good than polyester if just used as a back rest. Great for bending into all kinds of shapes.
