Expressed breastmilk

I'm eb at the moment but decided to express some milk as my boob was pretty full. I managed just under 30os (the first measurement on the bottle) my baby had the whole lot in one go. Is this way too much? He's still nursing now? I have no clue how much expressed milk I can give him in one sitting and not having much luck for guidance on Internet. My baby is 1 1/2 weeks old and does not stop nursing!

What is 30os? Is that 30 ounces?

I'm seeing 60-70ml for the first couple of weeks, each feed. I think that's 2-3 ounces.

It's usual for baby to nurse frequently at this age. It's how they up your milk supply to the level they need.

In terms of how much expressed milk they need it's pretty much a case of whatever they'll drink. My DD is 14months now and only has 5oz at the childminder, a friends similar aged baby will only take 2oz from a bottle

Do you have a la letch league meeting near you? They're fab for general bf advice and meeting other mums. They also have a helpline

They will drink what they will drink. At the boob you feed until they are full, same with bottled ebm. Feed on demand.

30 ounces?? I'd check again, that's a huge amount.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 23/03/2016 07:57

30oz is just short of 4 full size bottles

icclemunchy · 23/03/2016 08:27

Woah even in my NICU hayday I could only pump 3oz a side. Are you you you don't mean 30ml?

This must be 30 ml :)

No need for expressing, really, from what you say.

Just feed directly. Your baby sounds like he luuuurrrrvvvvves it!

If you feel uncomfortable because of fullness, you could hand express to comfort if you needed - but full on 30 ml yields at 10 days only serve to up your supply and you don't sound as if that would be helpful.

Having said that you have done no harm at all :)

Omg! Yes 30ml. I've not had much sleep >_>

Just had a good giggle at that. Imagine the size of the boob Grin

I was told 20mls per kg of weight per feed
