I've been ill, milk seems to gave gone. Help!

An illness which caused severe d and v. Had anti sickness drugs which meant I couldn't feed Thursday daytime. Fed that night a lot. Friday fed lot too and when he came off milk was squirting out. Yesterday he asked to be fed which hedonist normally, we usually do feeds at nap times.

Fresh nappy 6pm last night. Changed at 5am, almost dry.

I haven't been able to eat much though did have a few small things yesterday.

He won't take a bottle. He will drink water from a sippy cup and had about 60ml of cow and gate formula in the hospital. He's 7.5 months so is having food too but it's very hit and miss.

Can I do anything to increase supply?

He ate very little yesterday. He's not keen on spoon feeding.

Thanks, I had a small bowl yesterday. Loads of water. Just forced a large bowl down.

He seems OK though is asking to be fed more. It's the dry overnight nappy that worried me. It's usually sodden.

An apparent drop in milk suppy is very common after d&v and very temporary.

The best way to bring it back is just to feed - maybe a bit more often than usual. Things are likely to be nornalised today some time.

There is no evidence that porridge or extra water will help, and no physiologcal reason why they would, but they won;t do any harm :)

Yes, oats are good. If you have time/energy/someone else to make them for you, you could also make lactation cookies. These also contain brewers' yeast (available from health food shops) which is supposed to be magical for milk supply.

Thanks all. I usually have porridge so no harm there. It's the dry nappy that bothers me. He has done two wet poos this morning though.

Hope for normal service to be resumed soon. I waivers dehydrated. Didn't pee for 24 hrs!

There is no need for concern about the dry nappy, IMO - he's clearly overcoming any lack in fluids now, and he is 7.5 mths, when you tend to notice less frequent urination (though I agree - a dry nappy after a full night is unusual, though you say it was not actually completely dry). Whatever....he's apparently fine, the nappies are back to normal, and all sounds as if it is getting back on rack.

These remedies for a drop in milk supply are totally non-evidenced, though harmless, and the time you take sourcing out teas and herbs, could be spent feeding him :)

It was dry, I'm not sure he had weed at all. But he has today so am happier about that, thank you for the reassurance.

I had this problem.

After a couple of days of me eating again my supply returned! Just keep feeding and normality should resume asap.

I had this problem too and just kept offering feeds as frequently as possible and eventually got back to normal. It took about a week, maybe a little longer but my situation was slightly different in that my baby was still a newborn and went a whole day without any wet or dirty nappies so we ff him for a few days until I was well enough to look after him again then I gradually weaned him off the formula and onto ebf again. I probably wouldn't have bothered doing this if he'd been an older baby because it took longer to get my supply back up.
