Infant Gaviscon and constipation

My b/f baby was not gaining weight properly (and started losing at one point) bacause he kept bringing up a lot of his feeds. We have been prescribed IG which is great - very little posetting and good weight gain. However, the IG affects his poo and ds has now not pooed for 3 days. Last time he went he seemed to stuggle and went bright red whilst pushing. Any advice on how to deal with a constipated b/f baby?

How old is he, Anna? And what is the poo like when it comes?

It sometimes help putting your warm hand directly on their tummy. Also sitting them in the correct position for pooing. Ds2 has had a few problems with the Infant Gaviscon and although he's only just six months now, for the last two months I've held him on the potty when he's been constipated to help him go.

The doc's have since given me something called thick and easy which I use with the gaviscon in his milk (bottle fed) and now he's pooing four or five times a day and I can't keep up.

Tiktok, ds is 11 weeks. When the poo eventually came out after 3/4 hour of straining, it was little hard pellets followed by lots of softer, fudge like poo. Quite disgusting! Poor little thing was straining so hard he went bright red. I am hoping the next poo will be easier as we have eased up on the Gaviscon but this means some of his feed come straight back again. Almost back to square one...

Sorry - not sure what to suggest. It sounds that the infant gaviscon is affecting the contents of his bowel. What does the doctor say? Normally, bf babies don't get constipated. Poor baby - sounds very uncomfortable.
