hello, few days ago noticed red spots on skin around areola - went to dr who said its thrush. It's very painful when baby feeds. Have got Daktarin oral gel - has anyone else suffered with this and how can I alleviate the pain??

me! was given canesten cream for me and nystatin drops(?) for dd. hurt a lot but disappeared quite quickly once i remembered to treat us regularly. good luck!

yup, not fun! Make sure you are prescribed nystatin drops or something for baby too as otherwise no matter what treatment you take you'll get re-infected if baby has thrush in mouth - note that there may be no obvious signs of thrush in baby's mouth but I would insist on treatment for them too. Would use canesten cream on the nipples too, although you'll need to wash nipples before feeding which is a pfaff. Hope it clears up for you soon.

I had this too Oscar, it is awful. I used thrush cream on my nipples (which I didn't wash off - doc said there was no need really, if you apply it directly after a feed then don't feed again on that side for a few hours it will have disappeared) and fluconazole tablets which eventually cleared it. Ds had oral drops. Some great info here too. Hope it gets better soon
