Dribbling whilst bfing

DD2 is 4 wks old. Bfing is going well & she's been piling on the weight. However whenever she latches on, I have to have a muslin under her mouth as loads of milk trickles out. As I exclusively expressed for dd1, bfing is v new to me. Is this normal or do I need to perfect the latch?
Many thanks & happy Christmas!

its fine, perfectly normal.

Ah - and there I was thinking that bfing properly (as opposed to being hooked up to my pump) would be more diginified
Will it ever get any better or am I likely to be carrying loads of muslins for the next 11 months?

it does get better, but iremember getting damp patches where dd3 dribbled all the time. by the time she hit a year was very rare for her to dribble, by 18month i dont think she did it at all.

Fair enough - just thought it was me as noone had ever mentioned & it doesn't appear in any of the books! So a pillow & muslins will be my new best friend!! Thank you v much.

Just wanted to update this thread incase anyone does a search on dribbling & bfing....
After speaking to the NCT BF line, I "suffer" from a strong letdown (typically comes to play after a few weeks of bfing) which is why my dd is so windy, making clicking noises and milk is pouring out of her mouth. They've recommended one sided feeding and if I'm engorged to take off a bit of the excess so that she isn't overladen with milk.
It's working so far and she seems much happier. More info on this can be found by tiktok in the archives and on kellymom.com
