Breastfed babies! Lack of poop?

I've made a post in the health forum but someone recommended to post here.

Any breastfeeding mothers had experience of their little ones not pooping for several days/weeks?
My baby didn't poo for 4 days and had a ballooned stomach, and then had a poop explosion one night, but nothing else since then. It's been nearly 4 days. I hear it's quite common for breastfed babies to go several days/weeks without a bowel movement but I can't help but worry.
I called the hospital who advised to give water and wait for 4 days.
I'm a bit weary about giving her water but I gave her an ounce yesterday.
Tomorrow will be the 4th day so I will probably call the hospital again.

Is this normal? Should I worry? Should I do anything about it?

It's fine to go up to a week, so don't worry! You robti mention how old your baby is, but have a read here about giving water:

Dd went nearly 2 weeks without pooing at 4 months. Very common.

If baby is 6wks plus and exclusively bf, they can go up to 10 days

Unfortunately yes, it's completly normal but I was convinced it was uncomfortable for my dd. Try baby massage, there are videos on youtube but you might find some classes close to you. A combination of stoking their tummies and moving their legs can help with no poos and wind

Mine went 5 days without pooping once & he's breastfed too.
I was sadly wearing a white top at the time.
It's really common & natural, I just made sure his nappies were still wet & just kept breastfeeding on demand.

Yes mine did this. Stretches of 5 days with no poo, at about 6/7 weeks. It definitely made her uncomfortable. holding her in squatting position helped a bit as did tummy massage, but in the end it was the rotavirus vaccine which got her back to pooing properly!

Ive been rubbing her stomach and moving her legs up and down but all she seems to do is fart and fart and fart. She's a month old, just still concerned on whether I should the hospital tomorrow.

Totally normal. My midwife said the record she knew of was 13 days. I would avoid giving water to be honest. Just keep feeding as normal.

My dd went 9 days without a poo and the hv said to call if she went to 10 days. I asked why, worried that it was a problem and she just said that 10 was their clinic record! Normal.

DD1 used to go once a fortnight on 'poo day' and the only appropriate response was all clothes in the wash and baby in the bath!

Yep. My DD regularly went up to 10 days without pooing. Be warned though... when it comes there may be no stopping it! I remember soaking her outfits in a bucket of vanish after a pooing episode.

My DD also regularly went 10 days without a poo. We didn't always have a poonami either. When ebf, most is absorbed so there isn't always a lot to come out.

My dd used to go weekly when exclusively BF.

Totally normal. DS went every 4-5 days at this age. If we got to day 5 I took clean clothes for both of us when we went out!

Dd1 did this. After numerous trips to the GP it was confirmed she wasn't constipated. It was great only having to change one pooey nappy once a week! Dd2 is a poo machine and prefers a nice clean nappy to do it

It's reassuring to hear that this might be normal and that so many people have been through it! I called the midwife anyway and she said to make an apt with the GP if she doesn't poo by tomorrow morning. It is nice only having to change wet nappies though :P
