how much pain..

Is normal? I'm on day 2. I know it won't vlbe pain free and it's not too bad buy when should I worry that I'm getting it wrong?

She seems content so far and is weeing / pooing.

It definitely took me 2-3 weeks for pain to settle. Everyone said my latch was fine but it still hurt for that long! Maybe get midwife to look and when you able go to breast feeding support group too. Good luck- it's totally worth it in the long run!

It will take "a while", with me the latch was fine but the milk letdown was painful until my boobs got used to it! Took me 3 weeks I think, soooo worth it :)

Good. I don't mind if it's normal. All the stupid nhs leaflets say it shouldn't hurt but how can it not. It's not like my nips are used to being sucked for hours a day!

It got better for me after a few weeks. Totally normal for it to hurt they don't tell you this bit do they, probably as it would put you off! Definitely worth it in the long run if you can persevere. Easier to just shove them on boob than prepping bottles in the middle of the night anyway! Good luck and congratulations on your new little bundle! ThanksCake

Oh and yy to breastfeeding clinic if you've got one locally. I met some of my best friends at mine and it's really supportive, good to know others who are going through the same thing Smile

I didn't find breastfeeding painful unless the latch was wrong, or DS2 was feeding so much that there wasn't any milk left (this was only occasionally when he was gearing up for growth spurts).

Can you get a midwife to check your latch, or get to a breastfeeding support group to get it checked?

And yes, definitely worth it in the long run. Good luck.

For me the first couple of minutes of a feed, for quite a few weeks (maybe 6 weeks), hurt like hell. Was like someone pulling barbed wire through my nipples! No infection, no latching problems. Then it settled down and it was great.

I found avent breast shells a lifesaver the first two weeks. They aren't nipple sheilds. That, and lots of lanisoh and breast pads between feeds. It does hurt, it is normal, it gets better.

Thanks all. I will definitely get to the breastfeeding group asap. I can handle the pain now, it's just when she first latches on and is early days. Good to hear your experiences.

Yes I have the shields. They are fab. I'm smothering with lanisoh every time and wearing the shells.
