As it says on the tin, really. What was the one golden bit of advice you were given?

Looking for some nuggets of wisdom after miserably failing with BFing DD. Second DC due in a few days.

Thanks in advance Smile

If it cries stick a boob in it.

The "Flipple"!! DD3 was crap at opening her mouth for a good latch/ got stressed the Flipple "fixed" a bad latch every time!

Best advice I had was to have a cold drink every time you make (or better still, every time someone else makes you) a drink. That way you drink twice as much as you were going to, or at least you get to have the cold drink if circumstances change and you don't get to drink the hot one.

I was never given this advice, but learnt it myself to be true - it is perfectly possible to feed from one breast only. I bf dd for almost two years from one side only. Whenever I mentioned this to hcp, they always looked at me askance, like I was lying. Why would I bother?
Hence it is true that mothers of twins, mothers who have had a mastectomy, mothers with one inverted nipple, mothers whose baby will only latch to one side, etc etc etc, can all potentially bf (all other things being equal, and if they chose to, obviously).
