Hmm medala swing- would you use it?

There are 5 years between my children and have just dug out the old faithful medala swing to use, but it's looking a bit sorry. I've bought new valves and obviously will scrub and sterilise but are the internal security going to be safe or manky? You can't open and see...
I don't want to spend money I can't afford but don't want to poison my tiny baby either... Opinions?
