Ds is ebf. I have noticed that he often will take a few suckles , come off and look about, smile, another few suckles. I can understand if we are out somewhere but he's doing it at home now too. I feed on demand but wonder if i am offering too often so he's not that hungry? I don't really keep track but thought maybe i should try to space the feeds out a bit?

I did notice when i expressed the other day that there was a massive gush for several pumps then not a lot, so maybe he gets a lot quickly?

He seems ok but doesn't feed for long either now.

How long/often would you expect him to feed at this age?

Not an expert (total novice) but my DS (14 weeks) also seems to feed super quickly these days. So much so I wonder if it's enough but he seems fine. Often wakes me up in the night for a 5 minute suckle - frustrating!

There is a growth spurt around 16 weeks. It is very common for your baby to increase feeding A LOT at this stage. Suckling helps to increase flow so it can feel like a regression to new born stage you just need to ride it out and it will pass.

The only other thing that occurs to me if he is only taking very short feeds is that he his thirsty rather than hungry as the first part of a feed is more watery eg the drink and then the fatter milk follows. Are you drinking enough water or is your baby too warm and dehydrating? If not I would guess at the start of the 16 week growth spurt.
