Preventing thrush

I'm on a large dose of antibiotics to clear up a vile bout of mastitis. I'm now paranoid me and 11-day-old DS are going to get thrush. This is the one bf issue I didn't have with my older DC, so I feel it's Sod's law I will this time. I'm also quite run down and stressed and the ABs have given me an upset stomach, which they haven't before. I'm also getting an inkling I can feel vaginal thrush coming on.

What can I do to prevent nipple thrush? I've been taking large doses of probiotics and also giving DS a baby probiotic. But I'm not sure how effective they're being.

Any other preventative measures I can take?

Sorry, have no idea but didn't want you to go unanswered.

Have you called one of the Bfing Helplines?

Congratulations on your new DS Thanks

It thrives in moist warm conditions. Keeping your skin and clothes clean and dry helps. Make sure you're changing your bra /top regularly, as well as any breast pads you're using. Wash things (if possible) on a higher heat and if the fabric will take it, tumble dry and iron too to kill off any lurking yeast.

Get the vaginal thrush treated pronto and again, nuke undies and towels on hotter washes/dryer and iron your pants (weird I know but the heat does kill anything lurking.)

The jury is still out on things like avoiding excess sugar /taking probiotics. They certainly won't do you any harm but there's no clear evidence they work for non intestinal areas.
