yes tis me that veritable compendium of breast feeding complications...

am now slowly stopping feeding as am back at work and away sometimes. luckily ds has taken to the bottle like a trooper at last. However, left breast has developed what I at first thought was its third blocked duct - dead centre about 2.5 inches above the nipple. I say 'thought' because I've been combing, rubbing, heating etc and while it seems to diminish for a while with a bit of attention 3 weeks later its still there, as big and bad as ever. could it be anything else? it's sore and hottish, quite big and very very hard. no other mastitis symptoms - help anyone?

Um... no idea really but bumping this up for you. Have you tried emptying it by expressing? Maybe not what you want to do if you're cutting feeds/stopping but it may cure the problem.

sounds like mastistis (sp?)Have you tried nice hot bath- lots of hot flannels on said boob?
Remember it well- nightmare doesn't last forever though - take heart!

thanks soupy! tried expressing, tried feeding (and ds has a suck on him like a brand new dyson) nothing seems to shift it....

worry increased when I asked dh to feel (not normally a hardship for him) and he recoiled in horror and said oh my GOD why haven't you seen a doctor?! I did explain that when you are bfeeding frankly one of your boobs could turn into a talking alien and you would only be mildly surprised but I don't think he really understood why it hadn't bothered me enough to get it sorted...

Hi sweetie: do you think it could be a duct that just won't unblock but doesn't quite get to mastitis stage (hey, what do I know, just sounds like it, doesn't it)? I guess it's time to disrobe for the professionals, though.

LOL at talking alien. I know just what you mean. Once upon a time, before dd1 was born, I used to have very nice bosoms And a waist, too

Sounds like a breast infection. You probably need an antibiotic. I had a couple. They cleared up easily enough.
