Comfort milk back onto normal milk?

My daughter had silent reflux at 4 weeks so was prescribed Gaviscon but this made her constipated so the HV suggested comfort milk to help with the constipation.

She's now 15 weeks and not had the Gaviscon for 7 weeks but still remains on the comfort milk. She's only ever taken 3-4oz every 3 hours since birth and won't take anymore. She's generally a very happy baby but just a nightmare at night sleep wise, very unsettled and wakes every 3 hours still.

Shall I start her back onto stage 1 milk and it seems like she has no reason to be on comfort? Maybe that would help her at night?

HV said leave her on it if she's happy but it just seems unnecessary as she was only put on it for Gaviscon and she hasn't had it in weeks

Not likely it would make any difference at night, though, is it?!

Nothing wrong with changing back though.

I gradually changed back by using 1 bottle comfort, then 1 bottle normal etc until the comfort ran out then just did all first milk and he didn't react at all. As your baby is older now he might be less sensitive to the first milk so could be worth a try

So yesterday on every feed I done half comfort and half stage 1, her last feed was a full comfort. Since birth she has been up every 3 hours at night, but last night I am still in complete shock. She slept from 9-6 ?? Now I'm not sure what to do!?

Is that a complete coincidence or is the the weaning onto normal milk again?

Does she still have reflux? There are other medicines that will help with the pain and they should help to settled down feeding and sleeping patterns. Loads of old threads full of info on the difference medicines.

I'm not completely sure on this but isn't comfort milk easier for them to digest? So maybe she's been waking up hungry??

PregnantAndEngaged · 17/10/2015 09:33

Comfort milk is easier to digest as it is essentially partially digested for them so they may get hungrier sooner whereas the first milk will be more difficult for them to digest so it will keep them fuller for longer generally, so may have knocked her out for the count :p
