Hello, this is my first post as my dd (first time mum) is now 8 days and the worry has truly begun. I would really appreciate some advice.

I am bf and she is latching on well but does not feed for very long - 10 mins on average sometimes less rarely more than 15. Feeding every 2-3 hours. Normally falls asleep on breast have tried changing nappy and offering again but not interested. Wet and dirty nappies. Feeds better at night. MW not concerned but keep reading about 40 min feeds and am worried. Put on 2 oz by day 6 and is sleeping ok. Am I worrying too much? Thanks.

She sounds like an efficient feeder. As long as she's getting at least 8 (some say 10) feeds every 24hrs, weight gain continues well, she's not tooooo sleepy and is weeing and pooing lots, don't worry.

(mind you, 40min feeds would have been short for us for the first, oh, 3 months or so )

she's putting on weight? doing plenty wet nappies? seems content? then all's well!

i think your instinct is telling you everything's fine it's just the books etc telling you it's not. but you know your baby hasn't read the books.

how long do you eat for? how long do i eat for? if someone wrote a book about how long it takes grown women to eat what would it say? certainly not one same length of time for everyone!

Thanks, guess I also need to be patient as it is early days.

Sounds like she's doing really well.

Keep an eye on her nappies - she should be producing several dirty ones a day and they should be pretty heavy with wee too.

But it sounds like her weight gain's pretty good.

Keep it up - you're doing very well!
