DS is 10 weeks odd and has had reflex for the last few weeks. We were given gavisconnlast week which does help but is a real faff!

It has got worse this last few days.

Is.there anything else he could have?

If gaviscon isn't easing his discomfort go back to the gp.

Ds 1 has such back reflux we skipped gaviscon and was given two other liquid medicines. (The names escape me at this hour) both were very easy to administer before his feeds.

Hope you get it sorted soon, it's awful seeing them in distress

Bad reflux not back reflux

Thanks barbie initially he was a bit grunty and squirm but was keeping me up all night with it. Now though he is consistently more unsettled and as he is bf i can't always give gaviscon with every feed.

Totally understand. My ds was breast fed bit after being admitted to hospital at 7 weeks I had to admit defeat after seeing how much more settled he was on a special reflux formula. The guilt was immense, especially after breastfeeding his sister for 15 months prior to his arrival

However the medicine was easier to administer and he settled within days on the new routine.

So we went back to the Drs Wednesday. He said to stop gaviscon and start infacol. I wasn't ever so happy but decided to give it a go. He said DS might just be a sicky baby rather than reflux. I had asked if there was anything easier than gaviscon to give.

Yesterday he was ok. We were out most of the day. He did have a poo explosion in m & s.

Today he has sacked up massive amounts. Not just little spit ups. He did a sick over my shoulder which hit the floor with a 6inch wide splatt. Also two poo explosions - don't know if this is getting over previous constipation.

Just gave him.infacol. Small feed, sick. Feeding again. I've got a stinking cold and this is just wearing me down.

I really feel for you! A baby with reflux is so difficult as you just want to ease their pain. DD1 had silent reflux and was prescribed gaviscon which helped the reflux but made her very constipated. I went back to the docs and she was given Carobel which is a thickener. It worked a treat and I gradually reduced it as she was weaned at 6 months. DD2 has reflux and gaviscon is working for her although some days she is worse than others. She was also prescribed Ranitidine but it didn't agree with her at al!! Both DD's had infacol but all that does is help bring up wind and has nothing to do with helping reflux. Go back to your docs and ask for Carobel maybe? HTH

Both my DDS had reflux, both times prescribed Gaviscon and Ranitidine.

The first time my Dd would only have it with expressed milk which was a nightmare... expressing and syringe feeding and breastfeeding.... It did spell the end for me and we switched to formula - cue mega mum guilt!

This time round I was determined to make BF work, and my Dd takes the gaviscon mid - feed in 5ml (doc agreed this rather than advised 20ml) of cooled boiled water. Much easier, and it works a treat! We give her it in 1ml syringes and she now expects it and waits for it and it's so much easier.

We had a fabulous doctor and were offered Colief on prescription as well.... I know it's pretty hard to get on the NHS as its so expensive but can buy from Boots etc at around £12 a bottle. We didn't need it but supposed to help by breaking down the milk and making it easier to digest quicker.

Infacol helps, but only in helping them bring up wind. Certainly never heard of it for reflux! Good luck x
