I have been given a second-hand great pump- was wondering if this was ok to use- and how to clean etc? Thank you!

What pump is it? Some manufacturers sell replacements for all the tubes etc so that you can switch out any part that has contact with the milk.

The pump itself will be fine. You'll probably be best buying a new collection set though. Relatively cheaply bought from the manufacturers.

Just clean it and sterilise all the relevant bits it will be fine. It's only milk!

I read somewhere that there are two kinds of pump, open and closed, and that the open can allow milk to get into the mechanism meaning since you can't sterilise the pump mechanism it may mix with traces of last woman's milk.
However with a closed system this should be fine.

You could get a new collection kit or just sterilise. I have done both, baby is fine. Smile
