Stopping breastfeeding at 17 months - what happens to the milk?

I stopped BF DS2 (17m) last Sunday (so 9 days ago). He is fine and has adapted more quickly than I expected. Unfortunately my poor boobs - not so much. Nothing serious like blocked ducts or engorgement - just sore and lumpy. Can someone remind me how long they take to adapt and also what does happen to the milk already produced?

Also Flowers to this lovely forum which has provided much information and support over the past few years. I'm quite sad to be an ex-breastfeeder Sad Grin
