DD won't fed worried about her & supply - please help!

DD 5 months has a chest infection & got givena course of penicillin yesterday. so far today she hsa fed at 3am this morning & not since. She seesm ok in herself but just not interested. I have tried hand expressing into a bottle & she won't take that.
I'm abit worried that she isn't getting any food to fight the infection with & uf it goes on too long my supply will dwindlw & then there won't be enough anyway.
am feling very emotioanl & tearful about it all 0 can anyone please help?

BB - your supply will be fine. At five months everything is pretty well-established, and even if your supply does drop a bit it will only be for a very little while, and your dd will bring it back pronto with lots of feeding! You will find your supply responds almost instantly to the renewal of demand.

Breastfeeding is not a fragile thing - physically, anyway. Socially and culturally, maybe.

Keep her close and keep offering as the milk will help her get better.

thank you tikotk- the voice of sanity & reason!!!! have just spoken to my health visitor who suggsts ringing my DR agin if she hasn't had any by midday &then giving her diaoralyte. just wondering how on earthI would get her to tkae that if she won't take milk.....

BB its normal to feel emotional and tearful. Your tiny precious little baby is ill and you cant fix it. Its such a wonderful thing to be able to comfort your baby by feeding her - when my 11mo refuses the breast i feel rejected. Its not rational I knwo. When he is teething and I cant comfort him I feel distraught . I know its only teething but part of my brain thinks " Oh what if its something worse.." etc etc ect.......

BB I woudl wonder teh same thing ! Dioralyte is nasty and my baby woudl refuse too. I think you need to check she is still having wet nappies and that teh urine is still pale straw colour and not darker yellow. But tiktok will advise on that too

thanks Kristina. am going to try & feed her when she next wakes up - if no real joy then will ring DR. no real wet nappy this morning so far.

Breastmilk is brilliant for rehydrating - shame the HV didn't know that. If the baby won't feed, you can express and give the ebm by spoon - maybe the doc could be asked if this would be a good alternative to dioralyte?

have since managed to feed her for the grand total of 4 minutes. as she then puked the whole lot up we are now off to the drs......

If she won't breastfeed or take ebm and is sicky I'd be concerned about her hydration levels and think you are sensible to get the dr to check her out again. dd's bronchiolitis (which is viral so doesn't respond to ab's) began like that. Do try little and often though , any will help. Hope all is well.

she has kept the majority of her last 2 feeds down - even though they were small ones. has alsokept the amoxcillin down (the little that went in!). has been given saline drops to help cler nose so am hoping that all wil be ok.
