When will I stop producing milk?

I stopped breastfeeding a week ago. I am suddenly engorged this morning, which is strange, I thought it would have happened before this. I was feeding my nearly two year old and had tailed off fairly gradually, but was somewhat scuppered by a sudden illness and started feeding all day just before I then stopped again.

It can vary but the best thing to do is ease the engorgement without stimulating supply. Try running warm shower over your breast or immersing in a sink/bowl of warm water, it allows the milk to release without stimulating you to make more milk.

You may still find that baby crying might set you off but just persevere.

thanks! I have just worked out that I have spent a total of five and a half years breastfeeding. Goodness
