Well, gorgeous dd is 1 today and bf 3x daily.I am happy with this situation but am getting pressure from mil to stop."As you will be getting tired".The general consensus amongst colleagues(Health care profs) is that I'm a weird peron for still bf (Most bottle fed!) and am beggining to doubt self. When is best to wean, how do I start?I really dont think dd is ready yet.Grr sorry confused rant.

am by no means knowledgeable about bf.....but if DD (happy birthdya to her!) doesn;t want to stop and you dont....then don't!!!!!!!

don;t doubt yourself......! am sure some experenced breasdtfeeders will be along soon with some moral support !

I think you will find that the bf will become less important as your dd gets more and more of her nourishment from solid food. Just go with her (if you're not ready to give up yourself) and ignore the carping and criticism. I have a dd who gave up bf at 3 and a ds who gave up at 11 months - even though I wanted him to go on longer. Enjoy it while you can!

If you are happy, then ignore them all!!

kellymom has a whole section about handling criticism

My ds is now 13 months and we are still going strong and I am not a weird person!! Enjoy it while you can.

Thanks, doing a lot of reflecting tonight with it being babys birthday. Was really hurt by a colleague saying "Uurh thats digusting".I had not initiated the bf conversation,a colleague had brought in her young baby and was bottle feeding and the question of feeding came up and I admitted I was still bfing, was really suprised by negative comments. Then I got home and was bfing dd as she had been at nursery all day and MIL came round and started on about me still feeding and I felt really peed off.

Ugh, I'm sorry you're getting such rude behaviour from people! I still tell people I'm breastfeeding, not randomly, but in context. My DS2 is 2 now, and feeds about three times a day.

You know you're doing the best thing for her, if you don't want to stop, then don't.

I also meant to say that if people asked me how long I was to be breastfeeding ds for, I used to say that I would review it when he was a year old. Now I have just upped it to reviewing it when he is two if he hasn't stopped before then. I think it makes it clear that I have no intention of stopping for quite some time without giving a specific answer.
