BF baby crying when straining to poo!

Poo and nappy description warning, not for squeamish!
Our newborn son - 2 weeks old today - has so far been breastfeeding really well. A couple of days ago though he started straining, grunting and crying (like he was in pain) whilst pooing in the morning. He's not constipated as he's producing lots of wet and normal bf poo-ey nappies during the day and whilst he's crying and straining, he is farting and pooing normally. HV said it was normal but he gets really distressed and there doesn't seem to be much to do - we cuddle him and try to burp/wind him but we just have to wait it out usually and I feel useless! Sad

Rot does sound pretty normal and holding him is good. Some babies find feeding a comfort. Some no nappy time and baby massage may help too.

Congratulations on your new arrival Thanks

Don't worry they make all sorts of weird straining noises - it will get better it's just new to him!
