DS1 is a month old and in the last week has started to battle and wrestle a bit when feeding. He has also been more unsettled at night - last night we got one hour's sleep - and had pandemonium in his pants - frequent farty explosive poops. I have the impression I have a lot of milk.
I found this link which seemed to fit our situation: www.normalfed.com/continuing/gulping/
and then went searching for solutions... classic.regonline.com/custImages/340000/340403/FromthePerilsofBlockFeeding-Smillie.pdf
So it seems like giving the boobs a good old mashing before a feed mixes the stomach-settling cream with the thinner milk, and obviates the need to adhere to those arduous-looking schedules of block feeding, which could even be counterproductive. Believe it or not, after a single "milkshake", he's happily asleep without the floor-pacing and back-patting that have followed every feed for the last week.
