6 week old constantly feeding

Any advise pleeeasse!

DS has been feeing almost constantly since about 3 this morning, I mean feeding, going down for 10 minutes to half an hour then waking up hungry again. I don't see how I can't run out of milk soon?

I've read on MN that I should just sit on the sofa and go with it, but I must be a lesser mother because I just can't do it all day!!

What is going on??

Growth spurt? We had similar a few weeks back.

You won't run out of milk but I know how knackering it can be.

Next time you manage to put him down grab enough snacks and drinks to get you through to day!

That sounds like the 6 week growth spurt.

Drink lots of water, line up some nice telly and snacks for yourself and go with it!

It'll all be over in the next day or so and you'll probably need the next size babygro Grin

Feeding frenzy aka growth spurt: your baby is trying to increase your supply - and WILL succeed! It is entirely normal, but very wearing.

You need a good book or box set, a helpful partner, snacks and drinks to hand and an ability to ignore the housework for a few days until things settle back down.

I escaped a feeding frenzy once to fetch an older child from a party. I was gone, ooh, 20 mins, and by the time I got home the baby was howling. Having spent all day on the sofa, I spent all evening on it too.

Oh I need to put my fingers in my ears and not hear this!

I'm going back to work when DS is 6 weeks- I can't be up all night feeding then go to work!

Bf on demand is new to me. My others are older and were on set routines. I don't know how you're coping!

DH is at work and has text already this morning to ask if DS is still being 'naughty'! Hmm

He is a hungry baby anyway and wore a 3-6 babygro yesterday.. I've always just fed him on demand but I feel like he's draining the life out of me. But I am so determined not to give up. It is really really hard work,.

My mum has offered to come over, I know she'll say something on the lines of 'that baby needs a bottle!' Blush

It is really hard work but it's not forever, it's only a tiny portion of your child's life.

Your Mum can help you by making you something nice to eat and maybe doing some housework for you Smile

Babies take in the most milk they'll ever take during the first 6 weeks so if you survive this you'll survive anything!

Sounds like things right on track. I swear this constant feeding doesn't last forever. It probably is a growth spurt and baby needs to feed loads to get your supply up.

These early days were how I got into Xbox. I was going stir crazy just sitting nursing constantly Grin

we're mid-feeding frenzy now too op. Dd is 3 weeks and is going mad feeding on and off all day.It's hard. I really need this to be over as Dp is back at work and I've a poorly 20 month old ds to look after. Anyone have any tips for when you just can't camp on the sofa with the telly?

I've 16.5 week old twins and a 22mo.

When the twins are going through feeding frenzies, I try to have my toddler up on the sofa with us reading books/doing stickers.

He also watches far too much Peppa Pig or plays on the iPad.

I try to put the twins in their bouncy chairs as soon as they've finished feeding and give my older guy 1-1 time even if it's just for 10 minute chunks.

Reporting back - feeding frenzy has finished and he is wearing a 3-6 month babygro today Blush

I'm hoping all this feeding is at least helping me get back into shape as I've not made it out of the house yet this week

It's so hard OP! No advice...3 kids later I have no solutions to the most exhausting aspects of infancy. 6-9 weeks is a slog...always has been an incredibly tough time. And it gets marginally better but phew! Having babies is tough! Mine nursed so much, I didn't have time to pump for hubby to help out with feeds in between. The nursing does stabilise though. By 3 months there is a much more manageable rhythm. Until then, you're in the trenches. Learn to leave baby in a safe place just so you can switch off and breathe for 5-10 minutes.
