Abrupt end to breastfeeding?

My dd is 18 months and was still an enthusiastic breastfeeder - 4/5 times every 24 hours - until Monday.
She was flapping around in the night which I put down to teething but then wouldn't latch on yesterday- just laughed at or hit my boobs (!).
Needeless to say I am very engorged and uncomfy - don't know whether to express as if she has stopped I may as well too.
I know it's not a problem at this age but it seems strange as it's so abrupt.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I think they are quite abrupt at this age. I suggested no milk to do at about this age, after that it was just water, no complaining, nothing!

I think once they've decided that's it!

Dd2 stopped abruptly at 2yrs, though it was mostly at bedtime. Absolutely adamant about not wanting any (bit me in fact Sad). You might want to express a bit if you are engorged.

Savoy cabbage leaves will reduce your engorgement. You could hand express in the shower for comfort. Sage tea will reduce your supply.

Thanks ladies - feels strange all of a sudden. She lifted my top earlier and put her face near me but didn't latch on. It has coincided with a big development in language. Nature's way I guess.

I had the same a few weeks ago. She started walking properly and the next day refused milk and has only asked for it once in the last 3 weeks. If there were 4-5 feeds a day I would express off a little bit but less each day to avoid mastitis.
