New international symbol for breastfeeding - out with the bottle...

I noticed an entry on daddytypes.com about a new icon for breastfeeding facilities. Mothering magazine held a competition for the new icon design as it felt the bottle symbol was alienating, and outlines the winning image, as well as some of the runners up here .

I don't know if this now alienates bottle feeders, or if there will be a subsequent move to a more universal symbol for baby feeding IYSWIM.

Hohum.

I think the winning image looks excellent, regardless of any feeding agenda. Bf groups in the UK might like to start adopting it; a pdf of the image has been released to the public domain.

I like it.

But I don't like the idea of "breastfeeding facilities". (Just to be arsey )

I was (breast)feeding in one of those nice mothercare rooms (rocking chairs, dimmed lights, soft music) and chatting to a bottle-feeding mum next to me, when another woman came in and tried to eject the bottle-feeding mother. I thought it was pretty ill-mannered. And said so.

I think it's great.
Interview a little odd though-him going on about having to make a shield out of a blanket for his wife to b/feed.
Que?

Yes. must get a muslin curtain must must must.

Maybe the Americans are even less tolerant than the Brits ????

I think your symbol is beautifully minimalist RR, LOL.

I think part of the point about the symbol though is the political agenda ref: bf facilitie IYSWIM, but maybe it's intended to be suitably general...

It's a really nice logo, simple and very 'soft'. Talking about Americans being less tolerant than the Brits - and many would say that the Brits are less tolerant than some of the Continental Europe countries - things change very quickly. I'm from Canada and when I was growing up I don't think I ever saw anyone BBFing. My sister BF her baby and she never did it in front of anyone - that was back in the 80s. Now it's all the rage apparently, when I got pregnant first time around it's one of the first questions my mum asked me (she didn't BF either of us). I went to Canada for a holiday and BF DS anywhere , without even a single 'look' and saw other mums BFing as well. So I'm hopeful that things change, progress, and get better!

mears - that image is a lot 'nicer' but I can see the 'new' one fits in better with 'public information standards' IYSWIM - that quite uniform look for common symbols like toilets, parking etc.
