When to start expressing

Hi, when did people start expressing when ebf to build up supplies for dream feed/time away? I didn't do it until about 4 months with dd2 as was worried about affecting my supply but am keen to start sooner this time. If anyone could share their regimes as in when they started, what time of day they did it and whether it affected babies next feed I would be very grateful?

Thank you

I think as soon as you are confident with breastfeeding :), and are feeding with no issues.

I did find it slightly easier in the first few weeks in that oversupply phase. Once it all settled down I found expressing difficult unless I practically added an extra feed- 9pm every night as that was the longest gap between feeds.

Expressing between feeds can boost your supply because of 'supply and demand', it's always best to do it after a feed. I started expressing as soon as my milk came in with DD2 (currently 3 weeks) due to oversupply and have been freezing it because we aren't trying a bottle until 4 weeks.

I am going to start the 9pm express as that's what I did with dd2 and it worked out well, have decided to wait a few nights to make sure she keeps sleeping longest at that time as don't want her waking for a feed and mummy is all out! Now to convince her to take a bottle......!

I tend to express during bubba's long morning nap when they're fullest. How did it go OP?

I had these dilemmas with dd2, I drive my dh crazy with discussing it, after 3 children he is so over discussing feeding! I just worry that I will express, then baby will wake for milk and I will be empty and baby wont take a bottle of the expressed milk. She is only 4 weeks so I am yet to try a bottle. I was going to start tonight but think I will give it a few more nights to make sure she sleeps through to 11/12ish after her bedtime feed. I did express the remaining morning milk the other day as she didn't finish me off! So I have a sum total of 50ml in the freezer!! ??
