Is anyone breastfeeding a 6-8 week old?

Would you be able to estimate how long you feed in a day and how many feeds?

DS is 7 weeks old and I feel like he's feeding constantly. He had a tongue-tie snipped 3 weeks ago and although bf has improved, I wouldn't say it's pain free.
He also sleeps really well at night, regularly sleeping 6 to 8 hours, so I'm wondering if the prolonged feeding during the day is making up for the lack of night feeds.

Hey! Well done on keeping up the bfeeding :) sounds like he may just be cluster feeding/ stocking up for the night so he doesn't need it then! I'm not qualified by any means to say so, but I'd say it's that at a guess. My son did the same! I think you're meant to feel a little like that though! I would say roughly I was feeding my son 15 mins each side about every 4 hours, then at about 3 months he started to go a lot longer between feeds. Is this your first? You'll get more used to it in time :)

Second child but only managed to bf first child for a week or so.

Having read Snowdrop's thread, i suspect you're right about the stocking up but as nice as the sleep is, I'd like to be able to get out of the house now and again.

Looks like I feed for around 4 hours a day which is probably typical but it feels like more because it takes place in a shorter period of time and the feeds aren't solid sucking. He has lots of little breaks to reattach or sleep so a feed of 45 minutes suckling could actually take over an hour.
Feeds are typically 30-45 minutes each side and he rarely takes himself off satisfied. He usually falls asleep or i have to remove him so i can do something. By the evening i often give in and give him a bottle so DP and i can get dinner and bedtime for DD sorted.

He feeds for at least an hour at a time and barely sleeps in the day - it's pretty much constant feeding before managing a big sleep of about six hours.
He's my first though, can't imagine how difficult it must be with two - hope it improves for you soon

My DD feeds approx 3-hourly day and night, and snacks all evening. Feeds take 40-60 minutes. I wish I had 6-8 hours sleep - but I wasn't even getting 2-3 hours in a row a couple of weeks ago so not complaining! I think your baby's feeding pattern sounds normal.

All sounds good to me, it's just one of those things they adapt to in time :) the more relaxed about it you are, the more he will be! They pick up so easily! If I was stressed or tired etc, my son seemed to mirror that and struggle to stay on long. The cheeky little devils do like to feed themselves to sleep! My breastfeeding counsellor recommended stripping him down to a baby vest to help keep him awake and have a more substantial feed, maybe have a pop at that? Sounds like you're doing fab though! How do you find breastfeeding/general with a second child? I'm due in July and wondering if I'll go mad having two little ones under two!! :)

dutchess I'd say it's hard work with 2. Luckily my DD is quite independent but I feel bad that i just leave her in front of the tv. I have to remind myself that it's short term and I can do more with her in a few weeks. She goes to nusery a couple of days each week and my DP tries to take her out and do something fun on his day off.

No worries honey, this page has been a saviour for me! Lol :)

My little boy is quite good at amusing himself too, that makes me feel better! Nervous about sending him to nursery but feel itll be great for his development! At least if it's hard work I'll lose the bubba weight quickly eh! :)
