Hi. I have a 5 week old. Anyone managed to establish a bf routine? Its chaos at the moment. Feel like i dont move off the couch and DS doesnt sleep. At night we mix feed with formula so its not too bad! Just the days are a nightmare at the mo.

Sorry but it just sounds like normal newborn feeding to me! They go through phases of seeming constantly hungry, it's just growth spurts and they need to do it so your body knows to increase the supply. It does get easier but it feels like an age at the time!

How much you feed at night is what tells your body how much milk to produce in the day. Could it be that he's feeding so much in the day because production is slow?

Congratulations on your new arrival Thanks

Hey
Congrats in the new baby & well done in feeding
I agree 5 weeks is too early to serve patter/ routine.
Just go with it and feed as baby needs.
It will settle in time I promise xxxx

By about 8 or 9 weeks we had a pattern and I could reasonably successfully tell if a grumble was a "time for milk" or something else.

I agree with PP that the formula at night might not actually be helping. He might feed more in the day to stimulate your supply because he isn't able to do that at night.

It's early days and it will get better. The first 6 weeks can feel quite chaotic, and that's totally normal.

The first few months are a blur. It felt like all I did was feed, feed, feed and feed. Things didn't seem to settle until he was about 12 weeks old.
