If you time an expressing session wrong, or the baby wakes early, and you have to feed thr baby immediately after expressing, will the baby get a satsifactory feed without giving them the ebm?

Yep.

yes. it also means that your body gets a message to 'make more'.

I'm not sure that ds2 agrees with you - he's been feeding for an hour now, not very enthusiastically, but refusing to stop.

hes just enjoying a nice suckle. DS always does it, but doesnt always feed while doing it... just likes the closeness etc.

tonight, the milk will be coming in steadily, if you were to morrow night, same time, you may find more milk there as you supply has gone up.

i think somethings are lost in translation there. tonight, your milk will come in slower because of the unexpected demand. tomorrow night, you body should have responded with the increased demand and make more milk to meet it.

i was expressing for dd and at night this happened sometimes. i would go straight in and feed her. what i did was if she were to wake in the night and feed from only one breast, i would express the other. in the process, i built up 60 oz of ebm in the freezer and was taking in 18 oz per day at nursery. ( i also expressed at work mind you, i am no kind of supermum.)

when the christmas hols came and i gave myself a break, i was decidedly full of milk at night.

Does it reallyw ork that quickly?

i don't really know how quickly it works but if you think that a growth spurt is ususally a 24 - 48 hr thing in babies then yes, it probably does work that quickly.

i express for my dd at work still and because she feeds more often directly on the weekend she builds up my supply. monday lunchtime, i am uncomfortable. on friday, after 5 days without her feeding but double pumping once in the workday, i get a bit less than i do on monday and don't have that uncomfortable feeling.
