Iron ... dark green poo?

My baby was ebf and is now bf with 1 small meal a day (6 months) of veg or rice type stuff. She also has Well baby branded vitamins with iron.

I've rung the GP who is not worried ... but just want some reassurance from other mums on the following:

She had a cold recently and it gave her the runs. She's back to pooping once or twice daily now but:
-it is still liquid like bf poo (with bits of solids in). I read it should get paste like straight away on solids.
-it's lush green!! Though shes on thus iron rich drops.

No discomfort, no sickness, no issues. The nappies don't smell too bad either.

Anyone else had this with iron/vit drops?

Did the iron come with a leaflet or manufacturer's helpline? Iron supplements can turn poo green- babies and adults.

Both of mine had liquid bf poo with lumps of solids in. It takes a while and for some time it seems like it's passing through completely undigested. It didn't happen straight away with either of mine but was more of a gradual transition.

It took ages for mine to get solid poos, and one meal a day probably wouldn't have made much difference.

More likely you'd see little undigested bits of stuff in her runny poo until her body starts to digest it properly.

What veg did she have? If it was green... there's your answer! Grin

Not only green veg, no ... but the drops are brown/green! And she has them daily. Also I recall a picture in an nct class of vitamin supplimented poo which was green.

Thanks for the reassurance with texture. Exactly the texture she's having - wet with bits of broccoli etc floating round (mmmm!).

Did a naughty Google and it seems some brands do greenify and loosen stools: www.mothering.com/forum/32-life-baby/1284000-vitamin-d-drops-diarrhea.html#/forumsite/20454/topics/1284000 (just and example).

The GP isn't worried due to no pain and the frequency/size being average.
I will ask my local pharmacist for the most basic drops. They only need D and iron - the brand messed with my digestion when pregnant so maybe their baby version is also indigestible.

Smile

Thanks as ever for the reassurance!
