Breast feeding and extreme PMT

bf1000 · 21/03/2015 21:07

Hi can BF be linked to PMT - My PMT has been terrible since my Periods returned. I thought it would just be a few cycles and then return to pre baby PMT but if anything each month gets worse. I'm still BF toddler so not sure if the BF is a factor or not.

I am fine all month then PMT hits and it is terrible crying, moody mess for a few days and then fine again.
Any advise?

Poor you. Could sleep deprivation be playing a part?

bf1000 · 22/03/2015 11:24

Thanks - I am sleep deprived but manage to be ok emotionally rest of month.

I want toddler to self wean but If BF is having an effect on PMT I may have to wean now. So if it isn't a factor I wouldn't wean yet.

When I started to cut down breast feeds when DD started solids my mood went completely haywire. Horrible pmt, I didn't feel like myself at all.

It was a bit better when my supply balanced out at the lower level, but I still get much worse pmt than I ever did pre-pregnancy and DD is 15 months now and doesn't bf any more. I've started taking B vitamins and that's helping a bit.

I'm still breastfeeding 18 month old DS2, periods returned about 4 - 5 months ago, and I haven't noticed any PMT at all.

So no effect on PMT in my case. I didn't have bad PMT before DC either though.

Thanks everyone.
I think it prob isn't due to feeding so will carry on with that and hope moods settle down soon
