Making up forumula - the right water temperature?

Anyone know why you should use water that has been boiled and left for 45 mins before making up formula?

I read somewhere recently that using freshly boiled water is actually better as the forumla powder is not sterile once the packet is opened therefore killing any germs.

I think that if you use freshly boiled water to make formula, the heat could denature the formula - boiled milk is never the same as milk that has not been boiled. Also, if you are using lactase in the formula, the heat will destroy the lactase.

Water should not be left to cool for more than half an hour you will see.

i make up bottles with boiled water in the morning and then add powder at time of each feed. have never had a prob with DS having a tummy upset. I know several microbiologists who do this too, so figure if it's good enough for them....

I'm giving dd lactase, which has to go in the formula 4 hours in advance. Faced with conflicting instructions, HV copped out and advised doing what I think is right for my baby. Otherwise, I would be filling up bottles once a day and putting formula in as required.

Sometimes I use the little cartons of ready made formula, but that gets expensive. But even then, the bottle was sterilised at some stage earlier in the day, especially if I'm out and about, so I don't think it makes any difference to put boiled water in the bottle earlier in the day, too.
