Breast feeding and hopes of sleeping through the night

Just curious really. Do you wake up and have to express for a while if DC starts to sleep through? Just wishful thinking but wondered if anyone can share their experience. It must be pretty uncomfortable until supply adjusts?

When I night weaned DD at 15 months, the first night she slept through I had to hand express into a towel in bed at 4am. After that it was fine! Slightly rock-boobed in the morning but nothing worse than that.

Thanks. Thought that might be the case. The idea of a whole night actually sleeping seems too good to be true!Grin

DD (ebf) started sleeping through most nights at about 10 weeks (I know we are v lucky!), for the first few weeks I was pretty engorged in the morning but didn't need to express at night, just first thing when i woke up. I didn't want my supply to adjust too quick as who knew if the sleeping through would last. She had a week of waking again at 3am recently and seemed to have plenty to eat. Anyway my boobs didn't disturb my sleep although baby noises, dummy falling out etc meant it's never a true uninterrupted night unless I decamp into the spare room...

When they start "sleeping through" it's only 6 or 7 hours so you don't have to worry. By the time they are going 9 or 10 hours (6 months ish) they are having other food anyway so supply less of a problem. I would say be wary of over expressing as every time I did,I just ended up more engorged the next day.

Both my ebf dds slept through 10-12 hours at 10-11wks. I never to expr through the night but was very full in the morning for a short while. I just fed as soon as they woke and was fine.

DD1 was ebf and slept 10-11 hours a night between 2 and 4 months. My supply adjusted after about… a week, I think. It was a bit uncomfortable for the first few nights and I got up at 4am and tried to express, etc. We fully night weaned at 14 months (she was feeding 1-2 times a night) and that didn't hurt at all.

DD2 hasn't done more than 9 hours yet … it's been uncomfortable a few times but it seems to adjust quickly… if only she'd keep doing 9 hours, usually it's more like 4! Grin
