Fenugreek

My dd is 3 weeks old and so far we have had a difficult breastfeeding , initial bad latch, cracked and bleeding nipples, thrush which is preventing healing and now I'm convinced my milk supply is low as a result. I've read about fenugreek and would appreciate other people experiences using it to increase supply
Thank you

I used it and it really did seem to work and you can help it along by expressing alongside breastfeeding to help increase your supply. The only downside is the smell, your skin, your sweat and your urine - all will smell feintly of synthetic maple syrup. Blush

I think it has helped. I take alongside blessed thistle (Amazon sell it- haven't found it in shops). Have a look at the jack Newman website- he has suggested dosages.

I have been using fenugreek for about a month, my baby is almost 9 weeks and had been solely expressing as we had trouble feeding also. I used the fenugreek and pumped extra sessions and my supply increased. I have also started taking fennel tea and increased my fenugreek intake as I had a bout of mastitis and my supply pretty much vanished (had to use formula for a couple of days it was that low)- a week later my supply is back up not sure if it is the fenugreek, the fennel or the extra sessions but I shall be continuing the fenugreek and fennel tea.

My friend makes food bars especially for getting your milk supply going or get it i back up after having problems. Take a look at FreidaPantry.com or on Ocado. If you DM me I will get her to send you some for free, they have fennel and other ingredients in them to help supply but they won't make you smell - promise! I'm using them for my ebf 7 month old

It works really fast! Just keep an eye on nappies - I had to stop using it due to explosive poos.

I have been using fenugreek since DD was 2 weeks (now 10), on midwife suggestion, I stopped when packet ran out to see if I still needed it, and within two days my milk supply was really down, as in virtually nothing which it was before I started. So I started again. I don't have any of the issues with the smell, but BakingBunty, DD always has explosive poos, seems to only go every 2-3 days...Is this something it's known for or how did you work out it was that? I've been trying to work out from my diet what it could be making her so windy, hadn't thought of the fenugreek!

I thought it was a bit of a coincidence so googled it and seems to be quite common. I didn't have any problems with nursing tea, which I think is a combo of fennel and fenugreek... It was just the concentrated capsules that seemed to cause issues.
