ds is 12 weeks and im still v sore on one side. ive seen a bf counsellor 4 times but its just not clicking and its still hurting everytime i feed. ive had problems with the nipple bleeding but now its just painful.
i want to continue feeding but im dreading feeding off this side now.

can i just feed from 1 side and if so how do i decrease the supply from the painful boob.

yes, you can, I fed from one side for a long time and I know two other people who have and do so.
just let the other one subside. try no to express if you can. wearing a well fitting bra day and night will help.

Another thing you can try is to start baby off on the non-sore side then, when his initial hungry-mad-sucking has calmed down, transfer him over.

That way you won't run risk of mastitis but incredible toe-curling agony is much reduced.

I did this with both dds for a while.

Have you tried a different position? I was really sore and bleeding from left nipple, but then began feeding dd in underarm rugby style on that side and it really helped. I also used a nipple shield on the left side too for a few days just to ease the pain!

Have you had your nipple swabbed for any infection which could be treatable-eg, thrush ?

i had such painful bleeding nipples and tried everything. in the end the only thing that i think worked was a nipple shield (on the really bad one-a large part of which was scabbed up and missing!) and using Lansinoh cream at every feed.
Midwife and especially hv were not too happy-but at the end of the day it was me in tears crying out at every feed!

ignor what everyone says about them-it helped it to heal up (but still hurt in the process) and i think cos i only used on one it helped dd not get nipple confusion. it really did work and after weeks of absolute AGONY with people telling me to give up i stuck at it and still going well at 14wks (except for that bite last night!!!)

I'm so glad i kept at it-it does get better its just a case of getting it to heal-do whatever it takes.

ps used the shields for almost a week but that was too soon and had to use again for a further week-then all was fine!!

i know how bad it can be-you're doing really well-just do what feel right for you!

Thanks, Ive expressed off the sore side for a night to try and give it a break but its still sore. I have nipple shields so I could try that.
When ds is sick theres blood in it so I know its still not right.

If I transfer him after the mad sucking frenxy wont it mean that hes had to much fore milk and possible make him windy/colicky?

Have you tried not feeding from the painful side at all, you could express a couple of times a day and let someone else do a feed everyday and give you a break.
