Breastfeeding 18month old

Hi I breastfeed my ds 18 month 3/4 times in 24 hours. My monthly cycle has not returned. We really wanted to start trying for number two soon. I spoke with my mum about it as she breastfed us and she didn't get her af back until she completely stopped feeding. My brother was over 3 and she stil didn't. Anyways it seems I will probably have to wean him to start trying for number two. My main problem is ds will not go to sleep without breastfeeding and will cry until I feed him to sleep. Do u think I should wait until he's a little older? Any tips? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

Meggy there is a TTC while breastfeeding thread you may feel helpful. I conceived while still feeding a couple of times a day when DD was 22 months old but never got my AF back.

FWIW, I think this is a very individual thing - there don't seem to be any hard and fast rules, as it were! I'm stil bf my 18-mth old and have had my periods back since about 6 months after he was born.
