Can't shift this weight

Sorry to be self-indulgent, but this is really getting me down.

I only put on just under two stone when pregnant this time and didn't feel too bad once my son was born. But, I seem to be growing by the second and gaining, not loosing, weight.

With DS1 I lost my surplus weight immediately, with DS2 I think I kept it until I started introducing food and then it fell off for some reason.

This time round I am heavier than the last two times and I seem to just get bigger and bigger. I wouldn't mind but I really don't want to buy a complete new wardrobe and it would be nice to be able to sit down without feeling I am being cut in half.

Has anyone else actually gained while BF?

me. Its all the eating I do to retain some sort of energy level! Im week 40 weight, 2 and a bit stone over prepregnancy weight.

belgo · 26/10/2006 18:29

I have. The problem with bf is that it makes me hungry and tired - and so I've put on weight. Especially as I have a baby whith a very small appetite. I'm knackered all the time and craving sugar. Dreadful combination.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 18:36

I didn't gain, but I never lost in the first 6-9 months of bf. I think tiredness and sugar cravings are the big reason.

Once my babies started sleeping through, I had more energy and could exercise and eat well, and the weight came off easily.

I put on loads of weight both times but once i stopped and they were a bit older and i started to get some sort of life and energy back it all came off really easily, well most of it anyway!

I was dress size ten, I put on four stone during pregnancy and lost two stone by the second week after baby arrived. BF and now weight static, although my shape has improved ( can now get jeans over hips, but not aroung stomach. I am exercising ( yoga, pilates, postnatal stuff), but am now dress size 14 to 16. Will diet once i finish BF, want to return to old weight before next pregnancy after hearing research about risks secong time around, to women who gain a bit of weight in pregnancy.

I'm starting to wonder if the "you'll loose weight quicker if you bf" line is more about convincing people to bf. It probably works if you were skinny to start with?

I was size 14 before I was pg, gained 4 stone during (arrgh!)and am now stuck 2.5 stone heavier than I was, still wearing (very tired!) maternity clothes now 5 mths later or a few things I've had to buy in a size 20. Constantly hungry then miserable rottern prolapse, plus enormous floppy boobs making excercising hard. I just hope it all gets better when he's weaned...Someone tell me it will all melt away soon as if by magic..and I'll have a waist again... it'll make me feel better even if it isn't true!

Judy1234 · 28/10/2006 19:28

I did. I'd be up at 1am feeding and fed up and eating chocolates. It was all because I ate too much, not the bf itself. Being tired makes you eat more too.

crimplene · 28/10/2006 22:47

Thankyou! I'm feeling better 'cos I went and bought a new bra today and that's at least made me look a lot better, and it's helping to create the illusion of a waist.

Hi yellowpoo - my name sounds nicer than yours - my son used to have those before solids !!

Crayon - I lost most of my pregnancy pounds in the first few weeks after DS was born (I am certain due to bf, stress, lack of sleep, etc), but started to regain some of it later on due to over-snacking ! DS is now 2.4 yo (still bf 3 times a day) and I am about 1 stone overweight (above my ideal weight that is).

It is very difficult to diet and look after your shape when you are tired all the time and crave sugar. I am not a big eater portion wise, but I do snack which is my biggest problem. The minute I cut out the snacks I lose weight !

I still breastfeed and my s is 20mts old, I have really struggled with loosing weight, feel so hungry and tired

Klio · 29/10/2006 22:53

I'm still about 3 stone overweight, but put on 5 1/2 with DS. Am just beginning to start DS on solids (he's six months) but am constantly exhausted and hungry, with no energy to exercise at all. Been a real battle but am hoping things will get better and at some point I may even get a decent night's sleep, but hey I'm not counting my chickens!!
