Hi all

My daughter is now 5 weeks old and is going longer between breastfeeds at night (at times this has been every hour!). Anyway I am now noticing that my breasts are becoming really full and uncomfortable so I have started expressing milk - however at the moment I am just throwing his away as I don't want to use a bottle yet. I am going to get a supply of storage pits and start freezing it. However I am unsure hoe often I should be expressing - surely if I do this and carry on with the breastfeeding my body will think all is milk is needed and keep producing it??

Any advise/experience would be appreciated :-)

If you don't need to build up a supply of expressed milk then I would just express of the minimum necessary for your comfort.

If you want to express to store the milk, then yes your body will probably keep your supply up to match the demand. Maybe express once a day at the same time, so that it is just like one extra feed.
