Help!! My eight and a half month old dd has stopped feeding in the last day . Before thisshe was only having two feeds a day am and bedtime, which was a good 30 mins. All of a sudden last night she had two mins and stopped and was upset and wouldn't carry on. She had a tiny bit this am and nothing tonight. My dd did this but at a year. She is eating well and sleeping well (though the night 7 to 7). I do not really want to start offering her milk at other times than when she was previously feeding as this seems like a retrograde step so what should i do? I recently stopped offering her milk after her lunchtime sleep as she was having so little then too. I am going to express tonight (what a bore!) Any advice/ experiences of this please I don't want to give up yet really i won't be having another

Sorry no advice really, although it does seem like she may be weaning herself off. OR is it possible she has a cold or stuffy nose which may make it difficult for her to latch on?

No sniffy nose or anything just gets upset and sits up and cries!!

this might help

sorry I have only read your post in a rush but I don;t see why offering milk at other times would be a problem? If you want to carry on feeding I would offer frequently and especially as she is falling asleep. Good luck.

Thanks - been reading the Kellymom stuff - dd is crawling and very independent, doesn't really want to sit still or lie down with Mummy - she goes to sleep in her cot on her own so no real opportunity to feed while falling asleep and i don't really want to upset her sleep as well! She has been sleeping through the night for a while. Am off to bed now (in Dubai)but if anyone else has advice/comments i will catch up in the morning. Thanks a lot.

Good luck Morgan, I know it is upsetting

I hope you can get through it in a way that suits both of you

Not gone quite yet still surfing - i will keep offering and see what happens - expressed about 3 ounces tonight so will try her with that from a beaker tomorrow - she will drink water from a beaker, has never taken a bottle. I did try at different times today but she was immediately upset by it so i stopped.

How's it going Morgan? When I had a nursing strike I rang La Leche League and they were extremely helpful. I would give them a call if you think it would help to talk to someone.

Could you be pregnant? my DD1 self-weaned when I was pregnant with DD2. I was told pregnancy hormones may have changed my milk so that she no longer liked it.
