5 month old bottle refuser

I am desperate for some advice, my DD2 is 5 months and a staunch bottle refuser. I would love for her to take the occasional bottle, especially at night so I can get some sleep. We have tried TT, Medela, NUK and Dr Browns all with no success, she literally gags and screams until we give up.

I am at a loss as to what to do, I have (briefly) tried her on a cup but again she won't take it. DD1 took the occasional bottle from 3 months and then had one a day between 6 and 9 months when I stopped bf'ing. I am more than happy to carry on bf'ing but am getting a bit concerned that she is not going to take a bottle/cup ever!. She is a much more clingy baby than DD1 and just wants to be glued to me 24/7, she's a terrible sleeper too and for an easy life feed her to sleep every time she wakes, I'm pretty convinced her bottle refusing has more to do with the comfort than food but not sure what to do to change this.

Any ideas greatly received.

My DD is also 5 months and started refusing bottles around 6 weeks ago. We gave up trying for a while but over the last two weeks I have tried daily with a bottle. I decided to try making it as different to BFing as possible since trying to recreate BFing (with e.g. position, skin contact etc) just wasn't working. So, to make it different, we put her in her chair (nuna leaf) and put the bottle towards her. She is reaching out for it and putting it in her own mouth and we just hold the bottle while she also holds it with her hands. Eventually she started taking the bottles this way. I have also experimented with giving the EBM cold. This seems to be working for us so thought I'd share.

My DS is a refuser too. My friend recommended the adiri bottle - it's as boob like as a bottle gets. Unfortunately it didn't work for us but it gets good reviews on amazon.

Have you tried a doidy cup? DS started with that and omce he was used to it, moved to a vitalbaby free flow with a soft spout and will happily take 6oz.

In a way he's done me a favour, we don't need to move on from a bottle, but I was also despairing at about 5 months! Thankfully it all got a lot better after weaning and I enjoy breastfeeding again Smile

Thanks septbaby. Lastone, I have tried a doidy cup, she just looked really confused!!. I'm also now worried about weaning as she's not keen on anything being in her mouth at all (trying her to take antibiotics a few weeks ago was a nightmare). By 5 months DD1 liked sitting in her high chair and playing with spoons/cups etc but this one does not seem remotely keen, I don't want to wean her yet but thought if I do it may help with the bottle refusing. Will check out the adiri bottle too, thanks for the tip.
