Help! Tommee Tippee Closer to nature users... What do you do?

Hi,

I am having to supplement Breast milk with some formula, I've been using Tommee Tippee bottles and washing the bottle and cap with a brush, but the nipple part with a cloth. My Mum has just come to stay and has cleaned a mountain of bottles from over night ( 4 bottles per feed... Twins feeding with expressed Breast milk and then formula = a zillion bottles a night) but she separated all the nipples from the White plastic rim that screws onto the bottles! We haven't ever done this before, in fact we didn't even know it was possible.

Do you separate the nipple from the White bit?

Yes - we always separated them. Just pull the nipple bit through the white bit and it will fit back into place easily

Your mum is right, you should separate them to make sure they're properly clean. If you don't want to touch teats when re-assembling you can use the tongs from the steriliser.

This is the sort of thing mums know but nobody tells you! Yes it is something that you should do so that all parts are as clean as possible but don't worry about the fact that you didn't know this and haven't been doing it up till now. You know now and I'm sure the babies are just fine.

What the others say. I clean the teat with salt. Not sure why but my dad said that's how he did mine!

I separated the tests from the white rings as well and then sterilised them all separately, then put the bottle back together. I always found that formula collected around the indentations in the screwy grooves of the ring (technical speak). I used Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles for all 3 of my kids (formula fed)

TinyMonkey · 16/02/2015 22:09

Yep, we separate them too. I clean the teats with the same brush I use on the bottles. Use tongs to reassemble.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 16/02/2015 22:11

Yes, absolutely you separate them. Stuff gathers inbetween.

Haha my mum did this to me in the first days of using bottles. I panicked too!
